Vanadyl sulphate - Introduction
Hydrated vanadyl sulfate, chemical formula is VOSO4 · xH2O. The following are some properties, uses, preparation and safety information of hydrated vanadyl sulfate:
Nature:
-Appearance: Colorless or blue crystal, soluble in water, acidic solution.
-melting point: 50°C (anhydrous)
-density: 3.78 g/cm (anhydrous)
-Easily oxidized to vanadium dioxide (VO2) in air
Use:
-Vanadyl sulfate hydrate is widely used in chemical analysis, catalysts and battery materials.
-It can be used as a catalyst in organic synthesis reactions, such as Bertin reaction and S-H bond linkage reaction.
-In lithium-ion batteries, hydrated vanadyl sulfate is used as a cathode material.
Preparation Method:
-Vanadium oxysulfate hydrate can be obtained by reacting vanadium oxide (V2O5) with dilute sulfuric acid (H2SO4). Appropriate temperature and reaction time are required during the reaction to control the crystallinity and purity of the product.
-During the preparation process, the degree of hydration (the value of x) can be controlled by adding an appropriate amount of water. Generally, the degree of hydration in the prepared compound is 3-5.
Safety Information:
-The dust of hydrated vanadyl sulfate has a stimulating effect on the eyes and respiratory system, and direct contact should be avoided.
-Good ventilation and appropriate personal protective equipment should be worn during storage and handling.
